Peggy has had countless customers who were drawn to admire her living Hypertufa Art yet felt compelled to leave empty-handed, saying; "Oh, I kill Air Plants”. For the "Black Thumbs” among us, Peggy is now offering a new line of stone pieces decorated with dried flowers and mosses. The same amount of time and care goes into creating these pieces, but now we have the perfect answer to the "I kill them" crowd: “We have done the dirty work for you - these are dried, everlastings - no misting required! Hang on the wall and forget!” |
Thus was born my very latest (and I do mean late) tip of the week/month: (My apologies - our schedule is loaded up doing local shows so I may only have time for one tip a month ‘til things slow down). EVERLASTING BOUQUETS Flowers that dry well so you can grow your own everlasting bouquets The following is a list of some flowering plants that I recommend as excellent for drying. Planting these seeds in the early spring will give you a great selection of dried flowers which, by the way, are getting harder to find. Here we go!
| Ageratum | Globe Amaranth | Salvia Farinacea (Mealy Cup Sage) | Amaranthus | Love in a Mist | Starflower | Baby's Breath | Lunaria Annua (Honesty) | Statice | Bachelor's Button | Oxypetalum | Strawflower | Bells of Ireland | Rocket Larkspur | Xeranthemum Annum (Immortelle) | Celosia | | |
Locating seeds for these flowers is easy enough - Burpee Seed Company at www.burpee.com should have all of these for sale. The colors of these flowers range from blues to purples, pinks to browns, green, red, yellow, orange, apricot and cream. For best results, I recommend our Texas Hydro-Blast Seed Starting Blend!
This will get you off to a good start creating your own everlasting bouquets. Now, I guess my next tip needs to be---just how do you dry flowers?
I will let you know!
